Destruction according to DIN 66399 / ISO 21964

The destruction of data carriers is divided into different security levels in accordance with ISO 21964. In the case of physical destruction, the security level indicates the maximum particle size after destruction and is selected depending on the protection requirements of the data to be destroyed. Here are two examples of particle sizes after the shredding process for the highest protection class.

Particle size H5

H = Hard disks with magnetic data carriers
5 = Particle size max. 320 mm2

Particle size E4

E = Electronic data carriers (USB sticks, SSDs)
4 = Particle size max. 30 mm2

FAQ

How does the destruction of hard disks work?

Hard disks are destroyed either on site with our mobile shredder or after collection. After the destruction, you will receive a certificate and can track the process, for example via video recording or photo documentation.

What does the destruction of hard disks cost?

The costs depend on the quantity of data carriers to be destroyed, the location of the destruction and the desired service level. Please use our quotation form to receive an individual quotation. Click here to complete the form.

How safe is the destruction?

We guarantee compliance with the highest security standards in accordance with ISO 21964 and GDPR. Your data carriers are either destroyed on site or securely transported to us. The entire process is fully traceable and documented.

How do you determine the data protection requirements?

You define the need for protection of your data on the basis of the consequences for the data subjects in the event of publication:

  • There is no need to protect publicly accessible information. Data destruction is not necessary.
  • There is a low need for protection for data whose improper handling could affect the data subject’s social standing or economic circumstances (keyword “reputation”).
  • A medium level of protection is required for data whose improper handling could significantly impair the social position or economic circumstances of the data subject (keyword “existence”). In this case, destruction at security level 3 or higher would be sufficient.
  • A high level of protection is required for data whose improper handling could impair the health, life or freedom of the data subject. In this case, data should be destroyed in accordance with security level 4 or higher.

What evidence can be requested to ensure destruction?

In addition to the usual destruction certificate, you can request further proof that your components have been disposed of properly, such as

  • Serial number recording of each individual component
  • Serial number comparison with a list provided by you
  • Photo documentation of each data carrier shortly before the destruction process
  • Video recording or live stream of the destruction process

Would you like further proof? Then you can specify these in the quotation form.

What hardware can still be destroyed?

In addition to the destruction of hard disks, our broad spectrum also includes the destruction of

  • SSDs
  • USB sticks
  • Magnetic tapes
  • Floppy disks and CDs
  • Servers and switches
  • IT racks and IT components
  • Laptops
  • Telephones
  • Firewalls
  • Storage systems

Do you have other hardware components for disposal? Then you can specify these in the quotation form.

What happens to the waste?

The waste generated during the shredding process is disposed of in a way that has as little impact on the environment as possible. Environmental protection and sustainability are our top priorities when destroying data storage media.

We ensure that no harmful substances are released during the entire process. All reusable components and raw materials are recycled and returned to the economic cycle.
